Week 2, Post 1, Self Knowledge and Self Deception notes

Self Knowledge and Self Deception Notes

-Finding one's inner self is a relatively new concept, past couple centuries.

- Majority of people polled in US believe that they are above average at many aspects of their life which means the average person thinks they are above average which brings the average up. So most people are average.

-The average person is more optimistic about their personal traits and lives

-Most people remember things about themselves slightly better than it actually was, like test scores for example as slightly higher. People believe they are slightly better than they actually are, but most people are not narcissist's or have overinflated ego issues.

- We tend to take positive things about ourselves/ things that are said about us and focus on those while not taking criticisms to heart as often.

-If we can lie to ourselves and convince ourselves that what we are telling someone is true, even if it isn't, we can bypass the usual cues that are emitted when we normally lie.
