Week 9, Post 2

Deception in the news and media is a large concern in our society today. Many news outlets are labeled as pushing a more liberal or conservative political agenda, and not reporting without bias. Their stories can contain opinions passed off as fact, which in and of itself is deception. News stories containing fabricated information, or fake news, are another instance of deception in the news that has been observed by many in the past few years. Fake stories are mainly circulated on platforms such as Facebook and can reach millions of people.

The ease of access to news and the ability to create content via the internet has aided the spread of deceitful information. If people believe in something enough, they will do anything to defend it, and spreading fake news is a very effective way to do so. Attacking politicians to further someone else's political agenda, although usually fallacious, is a common theme in misinformation and fake news. Platforms like Tik Tok, and Instagram reels allow users to spread quick bits of information, regardless of their legitimacy without any source that can be consumed by millions. The spread of deceitful information has never been easier, and it is a large part of our modern society via media consumption.
